Garnock Women’s Hockey team were playing in a plate game against Clydesdale at the Glasgow side’s ground Titwood, on the outskirts of Strathbungo Village, on Sunday 6th March, so I ventured along to give my friend Fiona Ramsay some support and to capture some of the action with my camera.
The Titwood pitch is one of the best in the country, being up to international standard water based pitch level and has been host to several international hockey matches. The pitch was also used as a training venue for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Although this match wasn’t quite up to international standard, it was a hard fought and entertaining game, with one of the Clydesdale players being taken off injured and a number of close shaves on both sides. In the end Clydesdale won the game 2-1 and go forward to the next round, whilst Garnock’s poor season draws to an end.
The players defend their respective goals, some with more protection than others.
