I received an unexpected message from a friend last Saturday, who’s had an enforced break from running, asking if I would like to join her to watch the Relay Races in Houston. Of course, I said yes and we were soon making our way in the general direction of the village previously known as Kilpeter, or the town of St Peter.
It’s been a while since either of us had been to the Renfrewshire village but, with a little help from Sat Nav, we managed to get to the Race Start location in South Street. Sad to say but rumours of the demise of the historic old town’s Fox and Hounds are true and the old coaching inn, which dates back to 1779, now lies empty.
However that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the various running clubs participating in the event and at 2pm the first leg runners were set on their way.
The afternoon weather was kind to runners and supporters alike as the women’s teams of three and the men’s teams of four made their way around the 2.7 undulating course.
It was great to see so many running buddies participating in the, Kilbarchan AAC organised, event and to catch a few photos of them crossing the finishing line.
